Paula Buls, LCSW

The decision to seek counseling is never an easy one. It involves opening up to someone about issues which may be intensely personal. It involves being willing to take a risk. For people who may be a member of a community that has a history of being stigmatized or oppressed, it can be even more difficult. Depression, anxiety and trauma can all intensify the difficulties in moving through life in a meaningful and satisfying manner. As a therapist, it is my role to be supportive and non-judgemental and to work together with my clients to find solutions to life's hardships.

In one form or another, I have been working as a counselor, therapist and activist since the 1980s. I worked for many years as a Licensed Substance Abuse Counselor. When I came out as Trans in the late 90s, I began working as a volunteer and activist. Finally, in 2008, I returned to UT to complete a graduate degree in Clinical Social Work.
